Our Story Begins...
Once upon a time,
in a valley kissed by the sun and hugged by rolling hills, our dream began to take shape. Eight years ago, as we journeyed through the breathtaking Meadow Valley, a chance sighting changed our lives. It was a serendipitous drive through Summerland, BC, where the road opened up to a vista so spectacular it felt like destiny. My wife and I, struck by the beauty, felt an instant connection with the land. And there it was—a charming house on a hill with a “For Sale” sign, a beacon calling us home. After our camping trip, we eagerly returned, hearts pounding with the hope of making this paradise our own.
Our daughter, wise beyond her years, coined the name “The Humble Goatstead”—a playful twist on G.O.A.T., celebrating our aspiration to create something truly special. The name encapsulated the charm and ambition we felt.
We, a family of city-dwellers with a penchant for adventure, decided to dive headfirst into this new life. My wife’s visionary idea ignited our journey. With our two kids, Noah and Gwenyth, we embarked on transforming these 24 acres into our dream farm. Unlike other properties that were mere mountain sides, this land was a tapestry of rolling hills and big beautiful trees, every inch bursting with potential. The rocky ground posed a challenge, but we’ve spent countless hours making it into growable dirt.
We started small, with more enthusiasm than knowledge, raising pigs, sheep, alpacas, goats, and chickens. The sound of bleating goats and clucking chickens became our new normal. Our four dogs and a few mischievous cats added to the lively symphony of farm life. Each day was a lesson in resilience and resourcefulness, every challenge a step toward realizing our vision.
Our proudest achievement? Constructing a magnificent 4000-square-foot greenhouse. It’s more than just a structure; it’s a testament to our dedication and hard work. Within its walls, tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers thrive, and our spring crops burst with life. The 10,000-square-foot garden is our canvas, where we continue to learn and adapt, coaxing the land to yield its bounty despite the mountain’s whims.
Our story is one of growth, both personal and agricultural. Each milestone, from the first sprout in our greenhouse to the robust harvest of our garden, marks a chapter in our journey. We dream of turning The Humble Goatstead into a full-time endeavor, living off the land we love so dearly.
Every day brings new challenges and triumphs, and we’re excited to share this adventure with you. Welcome to The Humble Goatstead—where dreams are cultivated and every sunrise is a new beginning.
